VBS 2012

Waaaaaay back in June, our congregation hosted our annual Vacation Bible School. Why I haven't posted about this earlier I will never know. HOWEVER, I reference my blog for things all the time, so I want it documented on here.

Our theme this year was Searching for Gems in Proverbs. So. Much. Fun. All of our decor centered around treasure-hunting . . . easy and super-cute! More than that though, it was a GREAT study for children and adults alike. I think it was pretty nontraditional for a VBS theme, but there is so much meat in Proverbs and it was great to really get in the Word.

This was a boat and pier that we built and put at the front of the auditorium. All the children and teachers gather in here at the beginning and end of each session to sing, pray, and review. The children LOVED the boat and pier!

We decorated the entire hallway (very difficult to photograph) like a beach on one side and the ocean on the other. It turned out really cute.

The palm trees are 3-D (although it's hard to tell in photos) and the sand is burlap that we stapled to the wall.

The ocean was complete with a net full of sea-creatures :-):

The past few years, we have sang a song that talks about what we want to be when we grow up. Children volunteer to come to the front while we sing and "be" the profession. This is Brianna being a Police Officer. She isn't shy to go to the front, but was very serious about it!

Chris is our VBS director, and I was teaching the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Brenson was too young at the time (4 months old) to go to class, so he sat with my class during the intro and closing while Chris was leading us in songs. During classtime, Chris kept him. I was surprised at how well he did because we were out past his bedtime for 4 nights in a row (we have evening VBS)! My class loved holding him!

Brianna did great in class . . . this was her first time with this teacher.

Chris does great as VBS director! He was dressed as a treasure-hunter this year and the children loved it! Even Brenson would just laugh and laugh as Daddy sang :-).

Here is part of my class painting treasure boxes one night. Loved these kiddos!

VBS is truly a TON of work - I had a really hard time trying to balance being home with a 2 year old and an infant while preparing everything this year, but it is SO worth it! It is such a joy every year.
