Today, Brooke and Brecklyn had their follow-up hearing test after the issue we discovered at their five year well visit in February (you can read about it
here). I am SO HAPPY to report that they both tested in the normal range of hearing for both ears! Yay! Praise God for answered prayers!
Our last appointment with the audiologist was on March 5th. The girls took some prescribed meds and a steroid, and we've just been waiting since then to see if their hearing issue has improved. I guess it hasn't really been that long, but y'all, March 5th feels like a loooong time ago! I mean, the last time we were in this office, we waltzed in there as a group of four not even wearing masks!
I'm really not complaining . . . I was concerned that with all the shut-downs and cancellations that my girls wouldn't even be able to keep their appointment. I'm definitely happy they were able to be seen, even if it meant going through a few extra steps to get them to the doctor.
Since Chris is still working from home, we made this a family outing. You know you're desperate to go somewhere when you're excited about going to the doctor, ha! Really though, Chris wanted to be at the appointment with the girls, but we were told only one adult and one child could come in at a time. I took Brecklyn in first, while Chris waited in the car with Brooke and the big kids.
This was the first time Brecklyn has been in public since this whole Covid-19 mess hit Oklahoma. I knew she'd need a mask, so G-Jo {thankfully} whipped up a mask for both girls. I wore Brooke's mask because I didn't have one either.
We had to stop before even entering the building for temp checks. Once we both passed those, we were asked to use hand sanitizer. THEN, we were allowed to enter the building. I've said it and I've said it, but life changed fast.
I think the whole mask wearing element made the hearing test more difficult, but Brecklyn still did great. I was very pleased with how hard she tried and how well behaved she was.
After her hearing test, she and I met with the doctor. He gave us the news that everything looked great and that her hearing was completely in the normal range in both ears. YAY!
Then, I got to repeat the whole operation with Brooke!
She was also very attentive and well behaved during her hearing test.
The nurse was confused when she saw us back in the room to speak with the doctor. She said, "Weren't you all just here?" I explained the situation to her, and she laughed. I'm glad she found it amusing :-). When the doctor came in, he said, "Oh, I should've told them to just let you and both girls all come at once. Sorry about that!" I'm glad he recognizes the foolishness in making me come in twice back-to-back because the gals making the appointments and checking us in insisted that I bring them separately. Sigh. However, I was so happy to receive the news that Brooke's tests also showed her hearing was completely in normal range that I didn't even care my whole morning had been shot.
These results are exactly what we were hoping for! As long as we don't have any further problems (and the doctor does not anticipate that we will), we do not even have to follow-up. We are so, so grateful.
