Christmas Day fell on a Saturday this year, but we had already made plans to spend much of the day with Meme and Papa at their house. We decided we would do our small family Christmas on Friday, December 24th. One of the benefits of Chris not having a job right now is that we had total flexibility with how we could spend our days this time of year.
We woke up to a beautiful sunrise on the morning we celebrated our small family Christmas. It's truly these amazing blessings that make for the most special times.
We ate cinnamon rolls for breakfast, then took a few photos before we started the gift opening process. I found matching pj sets for the kids at The Children's Place on clearance last year after Christmas. The shirts all said "2020", but I got the sets so cheap that I just got rid of the shirts and kept the pants. It still ended up being a great deal!
These faces are the joy of my days!
Bren, Brooke, Brecklyn, and Brianna
Stockings first!
After stockings, we have the kids give their gifts to each other. This takes a while, but we love making a whole production of it.
Bren got Brooke and Brecklyn their own blue-light blocking glasses. They look so cute in them!
They were very sweet to give him hugs . . . even if he didn't want them, haha.
I love watching the kids put thought into the gifts they give one another. The reactions are the best, too!
Brooke gave Brianna this "B" necklace.
Brecklyn was so excited to see Bren open his gift from her (a Star Wars book)!
And he was excited to receive it!
Brianna got Bren a joke book . . . he loves it!
As Bren's big gift this year, we got him an inside basketball game (I got a great deal on it used from an acquaintance selling it on FB). I wrapped the balls, and he was a little confused when he first opened them.
I always try to get the kids books for Christmas. This year's books were a hit!
Brooke and Brecklyn usually get a few joint gifts. They never mind, and usually expect that some of their gifts will be shared.
This was a big box of Play-Doh!
Bren and Bri got Big Comfys because they're always cold during our school time.
Rockin' the Big Comfy!
Chris, Brecklyn, and Brooke all received puffy vests . . . they looked cute in them!
I love to just sit and watch the kids open their presents. Their reactions are the best!
Momma and her girls
I saw this stuffed hedgehog while out shopping one day, and I just knew Brianna needed it. She loves it!
Brenson is always using binoculars for something, so we decided to get him a new pair.
Brooke and Brecklyn also got backpacks to put their new dolls in.
And then comes the kids' favorite part . . . the wrapping paper fight!
The aftermath of the gift opening . . . I don't know why but I love to just to leave the mess and soak it in for a while. Maybe I know deep down that these days are fleeting, and I want to hang on tight to them.
We had our traditional lunch of mashed potatoes, stew meat gravy, cream corn, salad, and rolls. The afternoon was spent playing and enjoying each other, then Grampy and G-Jo joined us for finger foods and games that evening. It was a beautiful and blessed day!
