And what exactly are we drilling for...?

On March 18th, 2008, at 9:00 am, I'll be undergoing a procedure called Ovarian Drilling. And yes, the procedure has the worst name ever. I mean, drilling???? Seriously? Surely we can come up with a better name than that... Oh yeah, it's also referred to as Ovarian Wedge Resectioning ...that's much better, don't ya think? *rolls eyes*

Basically, my doc is going to use this procedure to destroy part of both of my ovaries in order to whip them into behaving like they should. Right now, I have a condition called PCOS, which causes me not to ovulate regularly, if ever. Because of this, both of my ovaries are covered in cysts, over and under produce hormones, and are inflamed and swollen. We've tried meds to make me ovulate, with no luck, so now we are going to try surgery. I've dealt with problems related to PCOS for years, and am excited about the prospect of "fixing" the problem. AND...probably the best benefit (if the surgery is successful) is that Chris and I may now be able to have biological children...ya know, like normal people do :-)! I'm a little nervous about the procedure since I'm a BIG BABY when it comes to anything "medical", but right now I'm just trying not to think about that.

So, please keep me and the impending surgery in your prayers. Oh, and let's brainstorm another name for the procedure...surely with all those brilliant minds out there we can think of something that doesn't contain the words drilling or wedge!

I wish you all the luck with the surgery. I know how bad you want a child of your own.

Hello Chelley--I saw your link on the Steece's page and b/c my name is Chelle, too, I thought..what the heck, I'll check it out! We have lots in common already, besides our name. I had trouble starting my own family, too, but with God's grace I was able to have 2 beautiful boys...and I will say a prayer for you to be as blessed! Hope it proves successful in the days to come!
