Every year during the Fall, we try to take a trip to Missouri to visit my parents. Generally, we go during the month of September, but this year we took our trip during Fall Break instead.
Brianna and Brenson had Wednesday, October 18th through Sunday, October 22nd out of school for Fall Break. Chris took Thursday and Friday off from work, so we were able to head up to Missouri on Thursday just after lunch. We like to make that trip during naptime in hopes that the kids will sleep in the car on the way there. The twins did sleep, but not as long as we would have liked them to. Ah well . . . best laid plans :-).
Mom had a yummy dinner fixed for us when we got there on Thursday, and the kids were seriously beyond excited to be at Grampy and G-Jo's house! After dinner, we played for a while before putting the kids to bed.
On Friday, we spent the morning playing and relaxing, then Mom had a little activity planned for the afternoon. She's always so good to have little crafts or projects, and Brianna has come to expect G-Jo to have something fun to do when we visit. This time, it was making caramel apples!

The kids were so eager to try to caramel apples, but I think the anticipation was greater than the result. The caramel was kind of chewy and difficult to manage.
Brecklyn's camera face is too much!

Friday was actually Chris and I's 16th wedding anniversary, so Mom and Dad told us they would watch the kiddos so we could go out. It's been months since we've been out on a date, and we promptly took them up on the offer! We're just not good about making going out without the children a priority, although we do spend quality time together after the kids have gone to bed in the evenings. Anyhow, we went to Colton's for dinner, then did a little shopping afterward. It was wonderful to be able to go out for a peaceful dinner, have conversations without being interrupted, and not have to do bedtime, haha!
On Saturday, Dad had to teach in the morning, so while he was gone G-Jo had a little craft and a cookie decorating project for the kids to do.
Brecklyn was proud of that cookie, even if it looks like she's in pain, ha!

Each child was able to decorate four cookies, which was the perfect amount. Everyone had a good time, but they were ready to move on to something else after four.
The line was long when we arrived, but thankfully it was moving quickly. Along with the train ride, there was a booth set up where the kids could have their faces painted. Everyone there were volunteers just spending their Saturday trying to spread a little Halloween cheer.
Bren didn't want to have his face painted (of course), but the girls were up for it!
Brooke and Brecklyn both decided to be kitty cats. It was really cute!
Brianna wanted to be a monarch butterfly. The girl who did her face did a decent job, but she put the paint on way too thick. Brianna's hair kept getting in the paint, and by the time we left the face paint was alllllllll over Brianna's hands, face, neck, and clothes!
After waiting for almost two hours, it was finally our turn to ride the train. The wait actually didn't seem nearly as long as it was, and the kids really loved the train ride!

The train ride took us all through this man's property, and it was all decorated in various scenes for Halloween. He even had a man lying in a casket and raising up as the train went by (but nothing too scary)! Toward the end of the ride, the train stopped and people handed out candy to all the children.
It was a beautiful day, and we had a really good time. I'm not sure we'd do it again, but we're glad we did it once!
On Sunday, Dad started a gospel meeting in a town about an hour from where they live. We all went with him for the morning service. The weather couldn't have been more different on Sunday than it was the day before. It was COLD, rainy, and gloomy. However, we're thankful we were able to go and support his meeting. It was a small congregation, and the people just lit up with the children. After the morning service, they had a fish fry potluck, then we headed back home.
The weekend was the perfect mix of activity and relaxation. We're always grateful for time we get to spend with Grampy and G-Jo!
