We've been all about the birthdays over here, and this past weekend we celebrated Brianna's birthday the day after we got back from our small birthday trip. I've heard many opinions about having all my kids' birthdays so close, but so far it's been really fun for our family! I kind of think every family should have a birthday season like we do :-).
Brianna's birthday fell on a Sunday this year. We had just spent the weekend traveling, but we took some time Saturday evening to set up Brianna's gifts and decorate her door.
I've try to do something different every year with her door, but I'm running out of ideas. I like how this turned out, though!
Sunday morning, we were greeted with a beautiful, winter sunrise. What an awesome way to start the day!
Brianna, of course, was super excited for her special day (finally!) and to wear her birthday outfit to church. I think she liked having a Sunday birthday because she got to share it with our church family.
Just like with Brenson, we gifted Brianna an experience (piano lessons) for her birthday instead of a big toy. In addition to the lessons, she also received a keyboard that a friend gave us. She was thrilled!
Her siblings gave her a few other little gifts, as well. Brianna is so fun to watch open presents because she's always excited and expressive, no matter what the gift is. I'm convinced I could wrap up a grasshopper for her and she'd love it!
Gotta love those expressions :-)
I'm pretty sure some of this was for my benefit 😉.
And, I think she was just legitimately excited, too!
While Brianna was having a fantastic time opening her presents, Brenson was barely awake on the couch. He had woken up with a fever and feeling crummy :-(.
Because Bren had a fever, Chris stayed home with him while the girls and I went to church. I think Brianna was a little disappointed because instead of eating out for her birthday, we grabbed food from the grocery store deli and brought it home. Also, we had invited Russ, Lisa, and Chloe Jo to our house for cake, but they didn't want to come since we had a sick one (and we couldn't blame them a bit for that!).
Despite the little disappointments, we still had a nice little celebration and Brianna was still all smiles.
I can't believe she's 8!
Make a wish!

The sisters . . . notice we had a Shopkins cake with Shopkins plates and napkins. Bri is allllllll about the Shopkins right now.
Bren still had a fever, but was feeling a little better by this time. Maybe Daddy's hair scared the germs right out of him?!?
We ended up having a lot of cake left over since we were expecting a few more people to be eating it with us. Brianna decided she wanted to take it to church that evening and share it with her friends there. Chris took the girls to worship while I stayed home with Bren, and he said they had a fun little mini celebration for her with those who wanted to stay and share cake. Unfortunately, he didn't think to take any pics :-(.
Brianna's birthday certainly didn't turn out like we had expected, but we made the best of it anyway. She was a great sport about the change in plans for food and company, and we're so grateful for her nice attitude. More than that, though, we're grateful for the special, sweet, and spunky girl she is, and for all the joy she brings to our lives!
