Spring Break 2018 Pt 1

Several months ago, I talked with Chris about possibly taking a trip for Spring Break. It works out well for short trips when Chris plans a working trip and we basically tag along with him. This was our plan last year until we all got the plague and had to stay home.

However, planning a trip didn't work out this year, so I decided to plan a fun week at home instead. It actually ended up being a little busier than what I intended, but we had a great week and much needed break from our day-to-day life! I documented each day on Instagram, but I thought I'd go into a little more detail in this post (and I decided to split it into two posts, so this is only part 1).

We officially kicked off our Spring Break fun on the evening of Friday, March 16th. The kids had school that day (and Brianna got her 50 mile running medal!), but that evening Brianna and I had made plans to see the ballet Cinderella at the Tulsa PAC with Lisa and Chloe Jo. We rode to Tulsa together, parked my car, and walked to a fun diner downtown for dinner before the show.

Do you think these girls were excited?!?

After eating, we had a little bit of time of walk around downtown before the show.

Both girls were thrilled to dress up, carry a purse, and be "fancy". Brianna even had me curl her hair!

Behind the PAC is a little park area with statues. The girls enjoyed imitating them!

This globe is an icon of sorts in downtown. The girls were fascinated with it!

I think the girls thought it would never be time for the show, but it's so very difficult to wait when you are bursting with excitement! Finally, the time came, though!

I had never seen Cinderella at the ballet before, and I really enjoyed it! It was entertaining and very well done. I think these two enjoyed it, as well :-)!

After the ballet, we walked over to Hurts Donuts for a little dessert before heading home. I didn't take any pictures of this, but it was a great way to end the evening!

The next day was Saturday, March 17th . . . also St. Patrick's Day. As is our tradition, we drank green milk and had Lucky Charms for breakfast!

We don't really "celebrate" St. Patrick's Day in any way except for wearing festive clothes. We're always sure to sport our green, though!

My friend, Angie, has just launched a one hour Saturday class for kids ages 3-8, and it happened to fall on the first Saturday of Spring Break. The age range is perfect for us, and a great excuse to get to see Angie!

Since Miss Shelly doesn't have her class during the school year any more, my kids really enjoy something that's structured very similar to Miss Shelly's.

Of course, they did a cute St. Patty's craft on St. Patrick's Day!

Angie's class is in Tulsa, so we took advantage of the wider variety of cuisine available and had lunch at Pei Wei. This is a rare treat for us, but it always goes over well with everyone.

Later that afternoon - after naps and a little down time - we headed over to Russ and Lisa's house to dye Easter eggs. This is an activity that we try to share with them, and it's something all of us love!

I was trying to give some instructions and guidance . . . this activity can quickly get crazy with all the children!

Chloe Jo's friend, Jaden, also joined us for the fun. Look at all those eggs we were getting ready to color!

A few years ago, it felt like there weren't enough adults for this activity, but this year was much, much better! The big kids are all mostly independent now, and even the little girls do really well without much help. I know it's so cliche' to say, but time really does go so quickly.

Love this crew!

On Sunday, we had a pretty typical day. We went to worship that morning,

went out for lunch, took naps, went back to worship, and ended the evening letting the big kids stay up later than normal for a fun game of Headbandz since there was no school the next day!

The kids were excited to be out of school on Monday, and even more excited when I told them I had set up several play dates for the week with friends we don't see often. The were not excited, however, when we began Monday morning with chores :-). I guess they thought we were going to play all week and not lift a finger around the house!

Truthfully, though, they worked quickly and with happy hearts until just about 20 minutes before our friends arrived to spend the day with us. I had invited my friend, Christie, and her two kids, Callie and Riggins, over for a play date. We used to do things with them quite often, but it's been about 18 months since we'd had the kids together. Thankfully, it didn't take them long to warm up to each other!

Crazy kids :-)

The weather was overcast and very chilly, but that didn't stop the kids from wanting to play outside the whole morning. Our neighbors, Maddy and Lauren, came over for a while, too, so we had a whole crew of kids running and playing!

Riggins and Bren were so cute and really hit it off. I think Bren was just excited to have another boy around!

Christie and I have been friends for 18 years, and have seen each other through a lot of life. We don't talk or see each other as much as we once did, but it was really, really good to be together and catch up on life!

Our friends stayed for lunch and most of the afternoon. That evening for dinner, I just wanted something warm and chili sounded perfect! YUM!

I'll continue with the rest of our Spring Break in my next post, but for now I'm going to end this here. I'm so grateful for a wonderful break . . . it blew last year's break out of the water, for sure!
