After being sick for two weeks, I was so happy when Brenson was finally well enough to return to school (read here if you're interested). Brooke had been sick before Bren (you can read about that here), and Brecklyn had felt a little puny for just a few days. All my kids went to school on Halloween and on Friday, November 1st. Mom and Dad picked the big kids up from school that Friday, then came over to our house to celebrate Chris's birthday. After dinner, Brianna said she didn't feel good. Mom thought she felt hot, and sure enough, she was running a fever when I took her temp.
I kept her in all weekend, and by Sunday evening Brecklyn was also running a fever. They were both coughing and neither had an appetite. Monday was more of the same, so on Tuesday Chris took them to Urgent Care. Just like with Brenson, flu and strep tests came back negative, and ears, throat, and lungs all looked good. We were told it was a virus that they were probably getting over.
So pitiful 😢
Brecklyn had the same issue with keeping food down as Bren had experienced. There's nothing like a child puking in your bed to get your adrenaline going!
We kept them both home from school the entire week, loaded them up with water and vitamins, and prayed they would be better soon. By Thursday afternoon, they both seemed to be getting well, and by Friday they had both been fever free for over 24 hours. That evening, my parents had an open house for the church family, and we took the whole family to that event since everyone seemed to be well. After we got home that night, Brianna and Brecklyn had a very hard time. On Saturday morning, Chris took them to see our pediatrician (he has Saturday hours during the winter), and they were both diagnosed with pneumonia.
I cried when Chris told me the diagnosis, but I wasn't surprised. I had told Chris earlier in the week that my mommy instinct was that they were more sick than we realized. I felt horrible that I'd had them out Friday night, and I was just so sad that two more of my babies were so sick.
This is Brianna's first time ever to have pneumonia.
Thankfully, unlike with Bren, the first round of meds worked great for the girls. We could see a huge improvement with both of them by Sunday evening. Brianna's sweet friend, Gavon, and his mom left get well soon gifts for all the kids on our front porch. They got Brianna a couple of craft kits, but also included a jar of pickled okra for her (Gavon knows the way to Bri's heart, haha). It was SO good to see her smile when she saw the jar of pickled okra.
We're hoping for Thursday, but we'll see. I have missed church for the last four Sundays in a row . . . I can't remember another time in my life when I've been gone so many consecutive Sundays. I've been fed spiritually good food very consistently my entire life, so it is safe to say that I'm feeling a bit starved right now. I'm so ready to have everyone well again and be back in our normal routine SOON.
