It's a Snow Day, Whoop, Whoop!

It's been a while since we've had a significant snow around here. In fact, since we've lived in our current house (over three years), we haven't had more than an inch and a half of snow. That means that Brooke and Brecklyn have never really seen a "real" snow before.

Last fall, there were several predictions that our winter would be cold and wet. Despite snow being in the forecast several times, it hadn't happened yet. So, when I heard earlier this week that snow was in the forecast for later in the week, I wasn't going to get my hopes up.

However, the forecast kept showing the chances for snow getting stronger and stronger, and I finally started to believe it might really happen. We had a busy day on Tuesday (with guitar lessons and LEGO Club after school), and as the afternoon progressed the weather got colder and colder. After we put the kids to bed that night, I noticed on FB that one by one all the area schools were calling off classes for Wednesday. I was soooo hoping we would get a snow day, too, but it seemed that everyone had called off school but our district. FINALLY - at about 9pm - Chris and I got the call that our district had called off classes. I let out a loud and long "Whooooooooooo" hoping that a child or two would emerge to celebrate with me. I was sad when no one did (Chris wasn't, haha!).

On Wednesday, we woke up to about an inch of snow covering the ground and quite a bit more falling from the sky. We were all SO happy! I love the snow as much as my kiddos! I think we received a total of about 5-6 inches throughout the day. The kids couldn't wait to get out in it and play. Chris decided to work from home so he wouldn't have to drive on bad roads, so he was ready to go out, too. I had woken up not feeling great, and by the time the kids were all ready to go outside, I was feeling really bad. Like worse than I have felt in a loooong time. I was so sad to miss out on playing in the snow - and even though I tried to power through it - I ended up back in bed by lunchtime. *sad*

Brenson dug and dug and dug in the snow!

The little girls filled and dumped this bucket about 20 times!

A bigger snow angel :-)

Brecklyn (and the others) enjoyed the sled on the small slope in our yard.

The girls didn't last too long playing outside (they got too cold), but Brenson stayed out for several hours in the morning, then again in the afternoon. About the same time that I went back to bed, Brooke started acting really lethargic and complained of not feeling well. She was running a fever :-(.

I am not the type of person that was made to lie in bed all day. In fact, I kind of hate it. It made me really mad to be so sick on a day when my whole family was home and I couldn't even enjoy it. My body ached SO much, and I discovered that I also had a fever. Chris played games and watched a movie with the kids, and I didn't get out bed the whole rest of the day. Argh.

Today, we were blessed with another snow day since the temps didn't warm up enough to melt anything. This morning, I woke up feeling some better. Brooke's fever (which had been almost 104) was down to about 101. She was also acting better. I spent most of the morning in bed, but have gotten up to do things several times. The big kids couldn't wait to get back out in the snow today, but the little girls weren't interested. We discovered that Brecklyn was also running a fever, so we brought the snow inside for them to paint. They loved this activity!

Chris and the Bigs spent a good chunk of the morning having a snow ball fight and building a snowman.

Such a fun friend!

Brecklyn slept for over three hours this afternoon, and she still has a fever this evening. About an hour ago (around dinnertime), Bren said he wasn't feeling well and we found he also has a fever. Sigh. We have had a rough winter with sickness, and I'm just so over it! I'm not sure how many of my kids will be going to school tomorrow, but Chris does need to go to work. Thankfully, I'm feeling much better this evening since I have sick kids to take care of tomorrow.

Despite the fevers and the sickies, I'm so grateful that we have had a few days to enjoy the beautiful snow! The kids have had a ball with it, and they said they wished it would happen more often. I feel the same!
