Baby, Baby!

Last weekend, I had the rare and wonderful opportunity to get away for a night with my college besties to celebrate Angie having a BABY! Even though it was only about 24 hours, it was a much needed get-away that left my heart so full!

When Angie shared with all of us that she was expecting, we immediately began thinking about a baby shower. I love that we've all thrown showers for each other through the years, and that we've been by each other's side through so many big life milestones and changes! Originally, we thought Ang and Jesse's boys' adoption would be finalized back in the spring, then baby would come in September. Because of COVID, the adoption finalization was pushed back several months, and their adoption shower didn't happen until the very end of June. Then, the church where Angie is a member threw her a baby shower at the end of August. With all this going on, Angie decided she didn't want her besties to throw her a shower, but that she would rather spend the night together in a hotel somewhere and get spa treatments. She didn't have to work too hard to talk us all into this plan :-).

Although we all thought getting away somewhere would be ideal, we eventually decided to rent a hotel room in Tulsa and stay close. With both Angie and Amy being pregnant - and Kendall having an infant at home - we wanted to minimize any risk of COVID by not travelling too far. Even without the excitement of an out-of-town trip, everything worked out beautifully. It was actually just perfect!

Kendall and I arrived at the hotel first about mid afternoon on Friday. We (along with Amy) had agreed we would bring gifts, decorations, and even a cake to celebrate Baby. Kendall and I worked hard to get the hotel room all decorated before our spa treatments.

I had a one hour massage and a facial. It was heavenly!

Amy and Angie were both coming to the hotel straight from work, so their spa treatments were scheduled later than mine and Kendall's. After Kendall and I were finished at the spa, we went back to our hotel room to relax . . . or so we thought! It turned out that our room had a water problem. The toilet wouldn't flush and the sink and tub were backed up. YUCK! We tried to call the front desk, only to discover the phone in the room wasn't working. After a quick trip to the front desk, we ended up moving rooms. This meant we had to {very} quickly tear down all the decorations, move everything, and put all the decor back together before Amy and Angie finished their spa treatments. We were successful, but it was a workout!

Angie had no idea that we were planning to do anything special, aside from the spa treatments. She was so excited when she walked in the room that she got teary-eyed. It was a fun moment!

Deciding on a place to eat that night wasn't too hard because so many restaurants are still closed due to COVID or never opened back up at all (RIP Osaka 😢). We landed at Zio's, which was a great choice. It had been a long time since any of us had been there!

Love my girls!

After getting back to our room that night, we were all lying in bed visiting when Kendall and I realized we hadn't heard anything out of Angie or Amy in a few minutes. We cracked up when we realized they were both sound asleep, and even snoring just a bit, lol! Earlier in the evening, Angie had made a comment that she and Amy should start a reality show called "39 and Pregnant" but that it would be the most boring show ever. I don't think she was wrong 😁.

On Saturday morning, we all got up and slowly got ready. We were enjoying our kid-free, husband-free time and weren't in a hurry! We grabbed breakfast at the hotel, then headed out for some leisurely shopping.

Hitting the town, haha!

Angie and Amy both wanted to look at some maternity and baby things, so most of our shopping centered around that. Since Kendall has a six month old, she's pretty up to date on all things baby. It's been five years since I've had a baby, so I feel kind of out of touch with it all. I didn't mind shopping with them, but I was surprised at how quickly trends change with maternity and baby things! After shopping, we grabbed lunch at Ted's. Then, we tried to take some group pics. I'm not sure we were very successful, haha!

We're ready to meet you, Baby! One week from today :-).

You can definitely tell in these pics that Amy wasn't feeling great. She headed home after lunch to rest and to see her husband for a bit. He's currently working nights, making spending time together very difficult for them. After Amy left, Kendall, Angie, and I grabbed an afternoon coffee, then drove over to Angie's house to visit for an hour or so. Kendall hadn't met Angie's boys yet, so she wanted to do that before she left town.

This little get-away was wonderful for all of us. As life continues to change and get busier, we cherish our time together more and more! We can't wait to do this again in a few months to celebrate Amy's little nugget!
