A Christmas Kind of Day

You can read all about our wonderful "small" family Christmas celebration here. I mentioned in that post that toward the end of the day I was off of my photo documenting game as I had very few photos from lunch through the end of the day. Well, I guess that carried over into the next day (Christmas Day), because my photo documenting was limited on that day, too!

We woke up on Christmas day with a slow and quiet start. I can't remember the last time we've had a quiet Christmas morning, so that was different but also nice. My plan for the day was to cook a big Christmas lunch, then relax most of the day. That's exactly what I did!

I invited Mom and Dad to join us for lunch, so they arrived around 10:00am. Mom and I kept busy preparing the meal while Grampy played with the kiddos. It was a beautiful, sunny (albeit cold) day, so they were able to spend a little time playing outdoors. Mom makes a pretty epic holiday dinner, and since I use her menu and recipes, mine turn out pretty great, too. I always think I'm going to take a photo of the food before everyone digs in, but I have yet to remember to actually do that. Take my word for it though, it was delicious!

We are so thankful to have Grampy and G-Jo close. We love having them over!

Once lunch had been eaten and the kitchen cleaned up, it was time to exchange a few gifts.

Brecklyn and Brooke each got the cutest pair of slippers!

They are at an age where they are so fun to watch. They are animated, excited, and just cute!

They also each received a "Walks-A-Lot" which is basically a pet on a leash. Do you think they were happy, haha?

Bren is much more low-key when it comes to gift opening. Well, that probably applies to a lot more than just gifts!

He was excited for this robot kit, though!

Bren also received a pair of moccasin style house shoes, and I wish I'd gotten a photo of him in them. My dad has worn moccasin style house shoes for as long as I can remember, and Bren just reminds me of my Dad when he's wearing his. I find it both endearing and cute!

Brianna received a friendship bracelet maker and a letter board for her room.

I think the girls spent over an hour walking their new pets, lol!

The remainder of our afternoon was spent helping the kids with their new toys. G-Jo and Bri spent some time making a few friendship bracelets. Chris and I took a long walk around the neighborhood (even though it was very chilly), and of course we ate dessert. After having lunch leftovers for dinner, Grampy and G-Jo headed home. It was certainly a different kind of Christmas holiday for us, but we truly have no complaints. We are blessed!
