The Nelsons Go Southwest - A Rest Day and Dead Horse Point

Sunday morning started very early for us. Not only had we never really made the switch to Mountain Time, but early Sunday morning Daylight Savings Time ended and all clocks went back one hour. That meant that my early bird kiddos (Brenson and Brecklyn) were up before 5:00am on Sunday morning . . . on vacation!

And what do you do when you're all staying in a modest sized suite and two kids are up that early? We couldn't even send them down to eat breakfast because the kitchen wasn't open yet 😂. We let them watch TV for a while, but the whole family was up before 6:00am.

Church services didn't begin until 10:00am, so we had plenty of time to eat breakfast, relax, and have a pre worship service Bible study in our room.

Worship services went well, although they only had the one service on Sundays. It was a small but very friendly congregation. After worship, we parked near the main strip and walked to a lovely Italian restaurant for lunch. We were seated upstairs in an open-air balcony area that overlooked the main street. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed the relaxed lunch and people-watching.

We hadn't made any plans for this day as we didn't know if we'd need to take the afternoon to rest or if we'd feel like doing something casual. The general consensus was that we were up for something small, so we decided to drive to Dead Horse Point State Park (about 35 minutes from Moab).

I had read that Dead Horse Point was worth the trip, and I would say that is true. The views were spectacular!

We didn't spend too long at the park. We drove down to the main overlook, then walked a little ways along the rim trail.

Another perfect weather day!

My girls!

My guys!

Lovely view from the rim trail

After being at the park for about an hour, we had seen all we really wanted to see. We walked to where our van was parked and discovered that the person parked next to us in a Jeep was having car trouble. Chris asked him if he needed help, and he said, "This is random, but do you happen to have a straw?" Of course the mom traveling with four kids had a straw! He was able to use the straw to fix whatever problem he was having and get his vehicle running.

Since we had part of the afternoon still available, we decided to go back to Moab and do some souvenir shopping. I think we all found the souvenirs we wanted at the first shop we went in! We browsed a few more shops so I could look for a hat (my sun rash was really flared up at this point), but I never did find what I was looking for. I settled for a Moab ball cap, and we headed back to our hotel.

We ordered pizza to be delivered to the hotel for dinner, and while we ate we also tackled the task of doing laundry and getting packed up. Somehow, our time in Moab was already over, and we were checking out of the hotel the next morning. Moab was amazing, and we had all enjoyed it so much. It's definitely a place that we'd all like to visit again one day!
