February Round-Up!

Happy March! February is always a joyful month for us (birthday month!), but this year brought some especially good days. Here is some of what we were up to this month:

We had quite a bit of winter weather this month. The weather forecast called for winter weather to come into our area on the 2nd of February, which was a Wednesday. The local public schools went ahead and decided on Tuesday that Wednesday and Thursday would be distance learning days. The kids love setting up and sleeping in tents in the living room on nights we get snow, so that's what they did!

Even though the twins had a distance learning day on Wednesday, nothing happened weather-wise until about 5:00pm. We didn't have in-person bible study that night, and it sleeted most of the night. Then, on Thursday morning (the twins' birthday), it snowed about six inches. The kids enjoyed playing in the snow that day and on Friday, February 4th. The twins were out of school on Friday, as well.

Loving the snow!

While we were "snowed in", I enjoyed staying cozy indoors and doing some paper-crafting. It has been a long while since I've spent hours just making cards or scrapbooking, and that's exactly what I did! It was so nice to revisit an old hobby!

I wrote a whole post about this, but after being unemployed for almost two months Chris started a new job on February 7th. That was a huge relief! Brenson wanted to eat at Jimmy John's for his birthday, but since Chris had started working he wasn't able to go with us. I ended up taking Bren to Jimmy John's a few days before his birthday, and we had great one-on-one time!

Valentine's Day isn't my jam, but the twins were SO excited to have a Valentine's Party at school. V-day was on a Monday, and when we went to buy Valentine's the week prior to V-day, the stores were completely sold out. We went to four different places with no luck! So, we spent the Saturday afternoon before Valentine's Day making two class sets of Valentines. They turned out really cute, even if they were pretty simple. Then, Brooke fell ill that evening. She starting throwing up around dinnertime, and had to miss church and three days of school (including the Valentine's party) due to a nasty stomach bug. It lasted a full four days, and poor Brooke was just miserable. I felt so bad for her! Brecklyn was determined to not get sick because she had missed the fall party due to being out of town with us for cross country nationals, she missed the Christmas party because she was sick, and they were out of school for snow on their birthday. Girl-child just wanted to go to a party!!! I was thankful that it worked out for her to go, and she was thrilled!

She had even spent a lot of time making a special Valentine for her teacher, Mrs. W.

Mrs. W took Valentine's photos of all the kids, and posted them to our class FB page with a little blurb about each child. I thought this was so special, and I love what she wrote about Brecklyn!
Thankfully, even though Brooke missed V-day and the party, her teacher had already taken their Valentine's Day photos. I'm glad to have this since she was so sick that day!

Three of my sweet Valentines!

Brianna had her turn at clock making with Grampy this month, and her clock turned out really great.

In between the bouts of winter weather, we had some beautiful weather this month. This is a pretty February in this area. We definitely took advantage of the nice weather one evening, and enjoyed a backyard fire.

This month had a very special day . . . TWOSday. On February 22, the date was 2-22-22, and it was a Tuesday. I got these cute photos from the girls' teachers:

TWINS on TWOSday!

I love seeing the work the twins bring home from school. Brecklyn brought this home one day, and I just loved it. She comes by it honest, as these are some of my favorite things!

She also brought this cute paper home from school. It says "The Nelsons Go Soth-west Grand Canyan made by Brecklyn". She told me in the picture we were looking at the arches in Arches National Park. Notice she labeled our van :-).

This paper made Chris and I kind of sad. This is also Brecklyn's work.

This paper said "Favorite Things" at the top, and was Brooke's. I love that her favorite book is Laura Ingalls Wilder, and of course she said her favorite food is "All food". Haha!

I thought this one was cute, too!

We had another weather event toward the end of the month. Sleet and freezing rain came into the area on Wednesday, February 23rd, and that was topped with a layer of snow the next day. Once again, in-person Bible study was canceled and the twins had three days of distance learning. Brooke was sick AGAIN during this time. She had come home from school on Tuesday complaining of a headache, and ended up running a high fever for about 72 hours. She has had such a hard time since she was sick right before Christmas, and I feel so bad for her. She also hates being sick, so that makes it worse. However, this time she didn't have to miss school since they were distance learning due to the weather.

Feeling bad, but still smiling!

With both the stomach bug and this latest bout with fever, Brooke is the only child who has been sick. It doesn't usually work that way, so I am thankful!

During distance learning, Brecklyn was supposed to be practicing her spelling words on these small dry erase boards we have. Instead, she produced this:
I thought it was super cute, and she always nails her spelling words anyway!

Brooke and Brecklyn LOVE to create and craft. One night they asked me if they could keep an empty tissue box. I figured they were just going to use it to play with. About an hour later, they produced this adorable little animal carrier. I love their creativity!

I will dedicate a whole post to this, but I want to quickly mention that February was also filled with lots of basketball! Bren had practices and games several times a week, and we really enjoyed watching him play. He finished his season last night (with a W!), so I'll write all about it soon. Now it's on to track season!
