August Round-Up!

Our August began with a quick trip to Kansas City, and I'm pretty sure it never slowed down! I made a several posts about individual activities from this month, but here are some of the things that didn't make their own post.

We purchased our dishes when we moved into this house (in 2016), and unfortunately we have broken a good number of them. We eat at home a lot, and our dishes are well used. It's still sad when we break them, though.

Speaking of broken things, we now have a broken wall in our house! The morning after our Backyard Back-to-School Bash, Chris asked Brianna to back our van out of the garage. I guess she's done this several times before (I had no idea), but this time she mistakenly put the van in drive instead of reverse. When the van began to move forward, she got flustered and pushed the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal. She drove right into the wall in the garage!

I was in the kitchen cleaning at the time and heard a big boom. The house shook, so I went outside to see what had happened. When I walked out, Chris said, "Everything is fine. The van isn't even damaged!" Right as he said that, the Toyota symbol fell out of the front of the van and broke into pieces on the ground! I just started laughing! What else could I do? Brianna was (and is) very upset about this whole incident and claims she will never drive again. I don't blame her, but I do feel bad that she's so upset. I asked her how she intended to get around if she never drives, and her reply was, "Mom. I'm a runner." 😂

The day of the twins' open house at school, we decided to go on a family outing to the bowling alley. We had a great time!

We have hummingbirds that like to visit our back patio, so I bought them a little swing. They are so cute sitting on the swing!

Before school started back, Grampy took the big kids walking with him a few times. One time, they saw a momma deer and her twin fawns. They enjoy going to the RSU Nature Preserve to walk.

Chloe, Brianna, and Brenson

One of our back-to-school traditions is to make chocolate chip cookies the day before the first day of school. This year, Brianna and Brenson weren't interested, but I was thankful that my little two still wanted to do it!

Brooke always thinks she's big enough to do everything herself!

I love how they think they have to wear their hats and aprons to bake!

The best part of cookie making? Licking the beaters, of course!

The big kids are running cross country with the Falcons again this year (this is their 3rd XC season), and Chris is going to help coach. We are all excited about this opportunity for him to spend time with our kids and other kids on the team!

Chris and Brianna have to be at XC practice at 7:00am on M, W, and F. It's early, but they get to see incredible sunrises on the regular!

We had a first this month when Brecklyn was invited to a birthday party by a classmate that we don't know well, and Brooke was not invited (because she is in a different class). The classmates mom didn't know Brecklyn had a twin sister until we went to the party and another parent asked me where Brooke was. She was a little embarrassed that they hadn't invited Brooke, but I thought it was a good opportunity for the girls to learn they don't need to do everything together.

Brecklyn had a ton of fun celebrating Ireland's birthday with her!

She and several of the other kids spent most of their time swimming.

Brecklyn's teacher is really good about posting photos of the kids on our private class FB page. I love getting to see what she is doing at school.

and introducing herself to the class with a "Me" bag,

Like I mentioned above, the big kids are running cross country again this year. They had their first meet this past weekend in Sequoyah. I'll share all about the whole season in a post later on, but I wanted to include this pic of them here. They were excited for a good day and their first meet!

I think that about sums up August! As always, I'm thankful for the adventures each month brings!
