Wooden Block Craft

Several weeks ago, I saw something similar to the craft project in the photos below on Etsy. I decided that I needed to try a version of my own!

I didn't take pictures as I was making this, but it's pretty straight forward if you want to make one for yourself.

I began with a raw wooden block (3.5 inches cubed) that I purchased at Hobby Lobby (where else!?!). I then painted it with brown acrylic paint.

After painting the block, I sanded the edges to distress it a bit. I then chose a few different patterns of paper and one photo. I printed the wording I wanted on two of the paper pieces. Then, I cut all of the papers and photo to just a little less than 3.5 x 3.5 inches and inked and distressed the edges.

Next, I adhered each square to one side of the painted block with scrapbooking adhesive and mod-podged over the whole thing. Finally, I screwed an eye screw in the top of the block and tied a bow on the top (the bow looks much better in person than in these photos). What you see below is the finished product!

{I smudged our last name in this photo.}

{The twinkle twinkle paper was purchased with the words on it. The scripture and paper with Brenson's stats are the ones I printed.}
{The bottom of the block has the same paper as the top.}

I think it came out so cute! I may make some of them for Mother's Day gifts for Brenson's grandmothers. Of course, depending on how you plan to display the block, you can tie the ribbon any way that covers the eye screw. The one I saw on Etsy was actually hanging like an ornament from a longer ribbon. I think sheer ribbon would be pretty as well.

Now I just need to find a place to display it!
