August always feels like such a transition month to me, and this past August was no exception. We went from the carefree days of summer to starting school and having to hold a more rigid schedule. Here are some of the day-to-day things we were up to this month . . .
At the beginning of the month, we were hanging on to those last few days of playing all day with friends. There's no doubt that our new play set is getting some good use. Now if we could just get it finished!
Cuties in a row!

The week before school started back, I made several appointments for the kids. They all had a hair appointment with Ms. Stephanie who was showing me how to make Brooke's hair super curly.
So beautiful!
They all looked much better after having a trim!
Our tradition after getting back-to-school haircuts is to go out for lunch. Once in a while, we'll pick up food and take it home for lunch, but we pretty much never go to a sit down restaurant without Daddy. I'm loving the freedom that comes with kids who are growing up!
Brianna also had her teeth cleaned. YAY for NO cavities!
And, everyone had a chiropractic adjustment. I wanted to make sure they were physically ready to start back to school.

The first day of school was Thursday, August 16th (you can read all about it here). After dropping the big kids off and getting them settled, I took the little girls to Wheels and Thrills for toddler time (which happens every Thursday morning). Toddler time is nice because only kids who are age 6 and younger are permitted to skate and ride on the toys on the skating floor. We also had Chloe Jo with us because her mom had started back to work but she didn't start school for another week. Chloe mainly helped me with the girls and played in the arcade since she couldn't skate.

Brooke is a naturally good skater and had the best time!
Brecklyn preferred to use the helper, but also had a great time. Our friend Sadie was there, too.
The girls kept going from skating, to the bounce house, to the play yard, and back to skating. I could hardly keep up with them! At one point, I was bent down helping Brooke put on her skates and Brecklyn couldn't see me. Brecklyn went to an employee and had them call for me over the loud speaker. She told them my name was "mommy" even though she knows my name is Chelley! We were quickly reunited and everything was fine :-).
Brooke and Brecklyn LOVE having "paint nails". One nice thing about only having the twins at home during the day is I'm not being pulled in so many directions so I have more time for things like "paint nails".

Both of the kids have had a fantastic start to their school year. Bren's teacher is really good about posting photos to our class FB page, and I love seeing what he's up to throughout the day. I thought this was a great pic of him interviewing his classmate.
This is another pic Mrs. L had posted on the class FB page this month. It's SO my child to be building some big contraption :-)!
Chloe Jo actually spent several days with us before she started school. One day, Brooke was wearing an outfit that was originally Chloe's so they decided they needed their pic together :-).
After missing several lessons while on vacation in July, Bren jumped right back into his lessons and guitar playing. We were so sad to learn that Mr. Jeff wasn't going to be teaching lessons anymore after August.
Mr. Jeff has been a fantastic first guitar teacher for Bren, and I know we'll miss him!
I've been trying to make more of an effort to have a little bit of structured "school time" each day with the twins since the big kids have gone back to school. So far, they've been very receptive to it, and it's been going really well!

They are very interested in learning to write.

They also love to cut, glue, and color.
And, of course, reading is always a favorite thing. We can't get enough of books around here.
Our school district is doing something new this year and having early release every Friday. It's only an hour earlier than normal, but it gives us enough time to have an outing after school if we want. One Friday, we went to the zoo for a few hours after school upon the kids' request. We won't do something every Friday, but it's nice to have the option!
We are still spending a lot of time playing outside after school and on the weekends. Bren has been asking for a T-ball set, and finally just created his own since we haven't gotten him one. Love this kid!
Last Saturday we had a pretty low-key day and decided to have some family game time after nap. Charley joined us for a game of LIFE . . . my favorite!
I'm not sure why, but school picture day was just a few days ago (at the end of August). We had kind of a rough morning trying to get out of the house, but at least the kids looked cute for pictures *grin*.
Brooke and Brecklyn both had their very first teeth cleaning appointments at the end of this month. I figured Brooke would do fine with it, so I had her go first. She did great!
She let them give her teeth a really good cleaning.
Brecklyn was a little more nervous about the whole thing, but she did great as well!
See how she has her legs pulled up in the photo below? She just couldn't relax. However, she did let them clean her teeth really well.
They were both cavity free. Hooray!!!
Brooke is my child who is very much not a morning person. Lately, she's been getting really sad about not seeing Daddy in the mornings because she's not up before he leaves for work. She always wakes up with big hair and tired eyes. Make no mistake, though, she's soon ON for the day!
