Halloween 2019

It seems like we often have sick kids during Halloween, so I was *almost* expecting that to be the case this year. However, this year Halloween happened to fall during the {very} short two days where all the kids were well. I was thankful for that even though it didn't last *tear*.

Most years, we do several Halloween activities and really get good use out of our costumes. That wasn't the case this year, and I'm okay with that! My kids wore their costumes to school, then to Boologah that evening, and that was it!

Brooke and Brecklyn wanted to wear their unicorn costumes from last year to school. I had purchased them dragon costumes, but I was also okay with them being unicorns again if that's what they wanted. This was the third year for Brooke to wear this costume!

Brenson really has little use for Halloween (except for getting candy) and hates to dress up. He always has! This year, I thought he'd make an adorable Waldo (from Where's Waldo?), so I first bought him a Where's Waldo? book. He loved it like I suspected he would, so then I convinced him to be Where's Waldo? for Halloween. This was his first day back at school since October 16th, and he was not amused that I wanted him to wear his costume. He sure looked cute, though!

A few months back, we were at Mom and Dad's house, and Brianna tried on a dress that Mom made for Lisa when she was a few years older than Brianna. Lisa mentioned that Bri should wear the dress for Halloween and go as Anne of Green Gables, so that's exactly what Brianna did! I bought her the hat, we put red color in her hair, and she wore boots that she already had. I asked Mom if she could have imagined that her granddaughter would wear the dress for Halloween one day when she was making it all those years ago!?!

My crew all ready for school and looking adorable!

Of course, Halloween at an elementary school means lots of fun and parties. The twins' pre-k class began their day by parading through all the other classrooms.

Their teacher was so sweet to take these pics for me as they went through their siblings' classes.

I immediately noticed that Bren wasn't wearing his glasses or his hat, so he pretty much just looked normal. Of course, lol!

Later in the morning, Brooke and Brecklyn had a class party, where they played fun games and ate a TON of food (mostly junk!).

Mom and I were able to join them for the party fun! Seriously though, look at their plates!!!

Once their party was over, I took them home, we ate lunch (not that they needed it!), and I put them down for naps. I wanted them to be well rested for our plans that evening.

Halloween was on a Thursday, and Thursday is the day Brianna has chorus after school. We picked Bren up from school at the normal time, then went back a little later to get Bri. Once we got back home, it was crunch time trying to get everyone ready to go to Boologah that evening, and it was chaos! Brooke and Brecklyn were over-sugared, cranky, and decided they wanted to be dragons that evening instead of unicorns. As I was scrambling to get their dragon costumes together, Bren discovered he had lost his hat and glasses, and was super upset that he didn't have a costume to wear (because he thought that meant no one would give him candy!). Brianna's hat had somehow partially unraveled, so amid everything else I was also sewing her hat back together *sigh*.

However, things calmed down, and we had just enough time to snap a few pics before walking out the door. Bren wanted no part of this.

The weather was cold this year, so under their costumes they are bundled up (another thing that added to the chaos!)

With Brenson having been so sick recently, I didn't know if he'd even be able to make it through the whole day at school. Thankfully, he did, but he fell asleep on the way to Boologah. Sweet boy.

Chris met us at Boologah from work, so he took the girls around to get candy and play games while I sat in the van with a sleeping Bren. I thought he needed rest, and I was reluctant to have him out in the cold weather too much.

Our dragons loved trick-or-treating!

Chris met up with Lisa so Chloe and Bri could be together.

Love our girlies!

Once Bren woke up, he and I went to find everyone else. He was happy to have a chance to get candy!

One of the things that we love about Boologah every year is that our church sets up a booth, hands out candy and reading material, and connects with the community. After we finish making the rounds with our kids, we typically join other church members at our booth to visit with the community. We feel like it's a great opportunity to connect! This year was no exception, and we spent some time at our booth after the kids trick-or-treated.

Another good part about this year was that I ran into a friend from college and her family. Her name is Shelley, and we lived across the hall from each other in the dorms for two years. We hung out quite a bit, I went home with her a few weekends, and we attended each other's weddings. Her husband is the principal at Oologah High School, and she is a local podiatrist. Her children attend Oologah schools, and her youngest son is in class with Chloe. Mom had attended Chloe's Halloween party earlier this day, and Shelley saw and recognized her. Then, we ran into her at Boologah and were able to visit for about 20 minutes. We have been "friends" on FB for years, but it was great to see her in person, meet her kids, and catch up!

After the sun went down (and the air got much colder), we went back to Russ and Lisa's house to eat some food we had picked up. The big girls were going to trick-or-treat Chloe's neighborhood, but decided it was too cold and they had enough candy. Instead, we visited for a while then called it a night.

I always feel like I have to mention that Halloween is also Chris's birthday. Since having kids, his birthday celebrations are always postponed (we celebrated the next night), but it's worth it! Halloween is so fun with kiddos!
