July Round-Up!

Happy August, everyone! Our month is off to a great start . . . we were able to see my brother and his family whom we haven't seen since New Years, and now my niece is staying with us for the week. I'll be sure to do a full post about that later. For now, I want to share with you some of the things we had going on during the month of July!

As you already know, we took a trip up north for nine days at the end of June and beginning of July. We got home from that trip at about 5:00pm on July 7th. Just a few hours after getting home, Bren flew head first off of our large platform swing and skinned his face all up.

This is how he looked the next morning:

Thankfully, they are surface wounds and shouldn't leave any kind of scar.

The few days after we get home from a trip are always kind of crazy for me. I'm trying to catch up on laundry, bills, sorting the mail, cleaning out the car, etc. Sometimes, I allow myself to get really stressed about all the work there is to do, but I was determined to not let that happen after our Minnesota trip. When the kids asked me if we could grab Chick-Fil-A for lunch and go to the park the day after we got home, I said, "Why not?!?" It was really nice for them to be able to run and play since we had spent so long in the car the three days prior to this.

When my friend, Kendall, moved to Kansas a couple years ago, I knew that we wouldn't be seeing her as often as we had been used to. However, before this month, it had been over a year since I'd seen her. This hurts my heart to think about, but that's just the way life works out sometimes. Back in March, she and her husband welcomed baby #5 into their family . . . little George. I couldn't wait to meet him, but that proved very difficult with all the travel restrictions and COVID junk. She finally planned a day to come to Tulsa just to see Amy, Angie, and me, and it was wonderful! I loved snuggling lil' baby G!

I have missed this girl SO much!

Spending the day laughing, crying, and eating together was just what we all needed. It was so fun to talk all things "Mommy" as Amy and Angie are both currently pregnant. I'm so thankful for these friendships!

One day while Brianna was gone to camp, the girls were feeling sad without her. I was kind of feeling the same way, so we took some picture to cheer ourselves up!

Momma and Brooke

Momma and Brecklyn (and Glowy . . . girl still loves her Glowy!)

It was easy to find ourselves missing Bri during the week she was away at camp, so we made sure to keep ourselves busy. One day, we visited the splash pad for some water fun. It has been closed much of the summer, and we pretty much had the place to ourselves!

We also did quite a bit of fishing at our neighborhood pond.

Bren and his *very* big catch!

This sight of the kids fishing made me happy and sad all at once. It just didn't look right with only three kiddos!

Brooke, Daddy, and Brecklyn

We had some big rains and summer storms this month. I crave the rain sometimes, and don't even mind the storms . . . especially when a beautiful double rainbow follows!

The skies are often so pretty after a rain.

Some days are smoother than others, and we certainly have our fair share of not-so-smooth days. On one such day, Brooke was making a string of poor choices which finally resulted in her breaking a LEGO piece in half.

Just minutes after that happened, Bren (who was also making a string of poor choices that morning) spilled a half of a package of shredded cheese in the kitchen because he was being crazy. Chris texted me to ask how the day was going, and I just replied with the photo above and the photo below.

Even though some days don't go so smoothly, the kids often work hard to help me around the house. The little girls are learning to be great helpers . . . they are even loading and unloading the dishwasher these days!

Brecklyn

One of the teachers at the kids' school makes jewelry out of old skateboards as a side gig. I think her jewelry is so cute and have several pieces. When she advertised this pair of earrings online, I loved the purple and promptly bought them. The first time I wore them, I sent her this pic:

She used it on her business page on FB and Insta, and it made me totally feel like an influencer, haha!

We are used to some pretty hot weather during the summer, but this month has been gorgeous for the most part! All the rain we've had has kept temperatures down. One evening, we went to eat at the golf course with the S family. The weather was perfect, the sunset was stunning, and the company kept us laughing. We are so thankful for our wonderful friends!

I feel like this entire post has been very positive and upbeat, but I'm not sure that's really reflective of our whole month. We've had many moments of discouragement, wrestling with big decisions (mainly regarding school), and just missing how things used to be. We moved on a major decision today (that I'll write about soon!), and I'm hopeful that now we can focus on moving forward and looking toward the future. This next month is going to one of changes, both scary and exciting. I'm not sure I'm ready for it all, but ready or not . . .
