Miss Kay Came to Stay!

Every summer since my niece, Kaylee, was about two years old, she's come to stay with me. We've missed one or two summers through the years, but it hasn't been very many! I thought that when she got into college this tradition of ours might change, but so far we've been able to still make it work.

The last several years, she's come to stay during the last week in June. We had planned on that for this year, too, but she ended up being in the hospital and having to have surgery during the week we had planned for her to come. Then, we went on our Minnesota trip, Bri had camp, we had swim, etc. We had one week - the first week of August - to make it work and we were hopeful!

We met Jeremy, Shawna, JT, and Kaylee in Conway, Arkansas at Cracker Barrel on Saturday, August 1st to pick Kaylee up. We typically meet during the week which means I'm on my own with the kids because Chris is at work. Since we met on a Saturday this time, it was so nice to have Chris with us!

Due to all the COVID craziness, we hadn't seen my brother and his family since New Years. It was great to be able to have lunch and visit for a while! Yesterday, we met them at the same place to return Kaylee, and this time Mom was able to ride with us (so again, I didn't have to drive all that way without another adult). Mom was happy to see Jeremy and Mallory, but sadly Shawna and JT couldn't make it this time.

While Kaylee was here, we weren't able to do all the things we normally do. We often do a tie dye project, but the stores are cleaned out of those types of things. We usually go to library story time, but that's not happening this year due to COVID. We also eat out often, go shopping, etc, but we didn't want to risk Kaylee being exposed to anything this time. With all of that said, this visit was different, but we still found ways to keep ourselves entertained!

Beauty treatments are always fun!

Baking cookies is a tradition that we were able to keep!

(And, of course, eating the cookie dough!)

No pandemic is stopping us from taking crazy pics!

Or having Taco Tuesday :-)!

We also snuggled up and watched several movies.

And, of course, we always have to play LIFE!

We generally pack a lot into Kaylee's visits, and it was kind of nice to slow things down a bit this time. I think that may be the theme of our year . . . slow down and soak it all in. We have learned so much this year that just because things are different doesn't mean they can't be good!
