December Fun: Tree Decorating & Christmas Baking

Before leaving on our Florida trip, one of my goals was to have the house all decorated for Christmas. I knew we wouldn't be getting home until December 5th, and I thought it would be so nice to come home to the house all cozy and festive for Christmas!

Although that goal was mostly met, there were a few things that didn't get done. We were kind of derailed when the kids got sick right before we were supposed to leave, and I had to just let a few things go. One thing - decorating the outside of the house with Christmas lights - I let go permanently for this year. It just wasn't worth taking the time to do it once we got home! The other thing - decorating the big tree in our living room - was something we just had to squeeze in once we got back.

I had the best intentions to get it done pretty much right after we got home. I even thought that maybe we'd do it the day we got back. Haha . . . yeah that did not happen! We were exhausted, and I felt that unpacking and laundry trumped decorating the Christmas tree! It wasn't until the Friday after we returned from Florida - December 11th - that we finally got the tree finished. This is way later than normal for us, but better late than never, right?!?

I love how the house feels in the twinkle of the lights 🎄.

Since we were already feeling the Christmas spirit, we decided to do our Christmas baking the next day. I feared that I would feel pressed for time once we returned from Florida, but that didn't happen. This was mostly due to the fact that several of our regular holiday traditions were canceled this year (Christmas parade, any school activity, church luncheon, etc). It worked out to my advantage, for sure!

Starting those Christmas cookies!

I usually have more help than I know that to do with, but I'm thankful for all those little hands!

The Christmas cookie baking crew!

I'm not sure what the kids enjoy more . . . making the cookies or making a mess!

They always turn out so nice.

And they taste amazing, too! As you can see, we all still had Disney World on our mind, haha.

Cutest decorators!

Brecklyn decorated two snowmen and decided they were Grampy and G-Jo, lol.

We also made almond bark pretzels for our bible class teachers,

and cinnamon candy to share with family and Chris's coworkers.

We made a special cookie delivery to Grampy later that day, and took all of the almond bark pretzels to church to share the next day. Isn't one of the best parts of baking sharing the goods with others? We sure think so!
