April is gone and May has begun . . . how is this possible?!? We leave tomorrow for track nationals in Bolivar, Missouri, so I thought I'd better post about our month of April before we go.
The month started on a high note for Brecklyn who finally lost her first tooth. Brooke lost her first tooth back in November (while we were at Disney World, because of course), and Brecklyn has been anxiously waiting for her turn to lose a tooth since then. It was a happy day around here when she finally lost a tooth!
Bren and Bri have been going to my parents' house on Friday afternoons for a "Life Skills" class. Grampy mostly works with them in the garage, while G-Jo has taught them all kinds of valuable skills related to cooking, ordering meds (complete with a pharmacy visit), visiting the post office, and sewing. She taught them how to sew a button onto a garment, and Bren found this skill useful when his sweater lost a button. He wasn't thrilled about the task, but he did get the button securely back where it belonged!
After a great cross-country season with the Owasso Falcons, the kids decided they wanted to run track with the team, too. Track practices began last month, and April has been our month for track meets. I'll dedicate a whole post to the track season, but I do want to include a couple of my favorite photos here. We had three meets this month and will finish our season with nationals later this week.
Brianna
Brenson
The one Saturday in April that we didn't have a meet, Brianna got the opportunity to go to the ballet with Chloe in Bartlesville and see Cinderella. Russ, Lisa, and Chloe all had tickets, but Lisa fell ill at the last minute. It worked out perfectly for Bri to be able to go in Lisa's place, and they had a wonderful time!
Waiting for the ballet to begin.
Sweet friends!
It's been so nice to be able to be outdoors a little more this month. I'd seen an idea on social media several times to draw a vase on paper and have the kids put real "flowers" in the vase. Ours didn't quite turn out as cute as the ones I'd seen, but the girls enjoyed the activity anyway!
Brooke lost a top front tooth this month, and now her smile looks so different. I think getting their big teeth makes little kids look like big kids, and I'm not loving it!
I had shared about how we had an extra wintery winter back in February. The surprises kept coming this month when we had snow on April 20th!!! It didn't stick, but the big, wet flakes were sure pretty. I guess April ❄snow❄ showers bring May flowers!
Ross and Tia are in the process of having a house built AND trying to buy a business. We've kept their girls for them a few times while they try to take care of some business. We kept them one Sunday afternoon in April, and I loved looking back at my van full of cuties on the way to church :-).
The twins both had dentist appointments this month. They do so well with their cleanings that we decided to have the girls in different rooms so they could both have their cleanings going at the same time. It worked out great! We are still cavity free, and I'm very grateful for that.

At the very end of last week, the twins completed their reading curriculum for the year. We used All About Reading, and it was great for them! They could have finished even earlier in the year, but I slowed down the pace by adding days of only "recreational" reading into our schedule. It's amazing how far they've both come since I started formally teaching them in August, and I love knowing that I taught them how to read.

My newest readers!
We are hoping to finish up our school year in just a few weeks, and I'll write a whole post about that when the time comes. For now, I'll just say that homeschooling has been a wonderful experience . . . even better than I expected!
Happy May, everyone!
