June Round-Up!

We're off to a great start to our summer. It's been a month of activity for us . . . definitely more travel than I anticipated, but it's been so good!

On Memorial Day (which was May 31st), all four kids started a summer running program that Coach Renee offers. For 10 weeks, the kids meet three times a week and run together. Then, they also run a mile on Tuesday and Thursday on their own. Each week, they run a total of 10 miles, for a grand total of 100 miles of running by the time the program ends. So far, the kids are all enjoying it, and the weather has been fairly nice for summer running!

Once in a while, I get to sneak away with just one child. This month, Brecklyn and I spent some time running errands together.

Even though we wrapped up our homeschool year in the middle of May, I decided to do a unit on Birds of North America during the summer. We have all been enjoying our bird studies, and are finding the watercolor painting assignments to be very therapeutic!

As part of our school curriculum in the spring, the big kids would go to Grampy and G-Jo's house on Fridays for a life skills and shop class. They would alternate learning life skills from G-Jo and shop skills from Grampy. Bren and Grampy built a table to go beside Bren's bed, and I think it turned out really nice!

Last year, Brianna and Brenson's well visits with their pediatrician had to be pushed to June due to COVID restrictions. Insurance will only allow one well visit every 365 days, so I guess we'll be doing well visits in June from now on! They are both healthy and doing great, and I am so thankful!

For the first time ever, my kiddos got to get ice cream from an ice cream truck! They were excited!

Because we are CrAZy, we decided to have a yard sale this month (even though we had one a year ago). Russ & Lisa, Ross & Tia, and Mom & Dad all participated with us. We had a TON of stuff, and it was a chore to set it all up! People were at our house throughout the week helping collect tables, dropping stuff off, pricing things, etc.

The kids had a blast playing while the adults worked. The sale was on a Friday and Saturday, and we ended up doing really well on Friday. It rained quite a bit on Saturday, and that put a big damper on our sales. Altogether though, we made about $1500, so we can't complain about that!

We've had a few playdates with the Whittles so far this summer. We always enjoy being together, and baby Lia is growing too fast! One day, they came our way, and we all went to the school for the kids to play on the playground. It was a hot afternoon, but we still enjoyed one another!

Lisa and I are currently in full planning mode for a small 50th anniversary celebration for Mom and Dad that is tomorrow. We've been working hard on a special book for them, so Chris loaded all the kids up and took them to the splash pad after he got home from work a few days ago to give us some uninterrupted time. They drove out to the lake only to discover that it wasn't working that evening for some reason. This photo of sad faces says it all!

We have a weekend of celebration planned for Mom and Dad, and I can't wait to share all about it. We have lots of fun things planned for July, and we're here for it!
