All About the Eggs!

For over a decade now, our Easter tradition is to have an egg hunt with our friends. It's funny to think back that when this tradition began, it was just little Brianna out there hunting eggs all alone. I'm so thankful that as our families have grown, we've continued our tradition!

This year, we decided to do a glow egg hunt on the Friday evening before Easter (which was April 17th). We've never done an evening hunt before, and we were pretty pumped to try it!

We invited the Earl family, the Swearingen family, and my parents over for dinner before the hunt. We had a "traditional" meal of ham, potatoes, corn casserole, rolls, salad, and dessert. It was delicious! However, during dinner there was a bit of a mishap when Tia's eggs caught on fire. She had put her plastic eggs on our back patio under a powerful lamp so the glow could "charge". The lamp was so powerful that it melted the eggs and caused them to smoke. The kids were eating in our living room while the adults were in the dining room at our table. Tia asked Sadie to peek outside to make sure the eggs were okay. Sadie looked outside, then casually came to the table and said, "Ummm, Mom, are they supposed to be smoking?" Tia jumped up, ran outside, and quickly extinguished her eggs, lol! We now have a spot on our patio that may or may not be permanent to remind us of the egg fiasco of 2022!

Brianna is now 12 and Brenson is 10 years old, so I told both of them that this will probably be their last year to hunt eggs. They were both completely fine with that, which tells me that it's time for them to move on from this activity. We do still plan to do egg hunts for the four younger girls for a few more years! After we ate dinner and cleaned everything up, it was *almost* dark enough to begin our glow egg hunt.

The guys decided to play catch with some light-up balls we had purchased for the children. At least someone enjoyed them, lol!

The glow hunt was a success, and we really enjoyed changing things up a bit! We are certainly thankful for fun evenings spent with some of our favorite people!

We ended up being really glad that we had planned our hunt for Friday night and not for Saturday, as it rained almost the entire day on Saturday. We spent most of the day at home and decided it was a perfect time to color eggs together.

I love watching how focused the kids can be during an activity!

Brianna may be getting too old for egg hunts, but definitely not too old for egg coloring!

Bren is always trying something new with his eggs.

Chris had each of the children choose their favorite egg of the ones they colored. Then, he and I voted on our favorite of those four. Brecklyn's beautiful purple egg won our family favorite egg contest!

My favorite egg coloring partners <3!

I'll do a post soon about how our Easter day turned out (spoiler alert: We ended up with sick kids and it wasn't great!). I'm glad we got to have fun before things went downhill!
