Yesterday, we finished up volleyball season for Brooke. Brianna played volleyball in a rec league at the YMCA last winter, and Brooke couldn't wait to try it out this year. I love it when my kiddos decide to try something new, and Brooke was eager to get started with it.
The season began back in November, the week before Thanksgiving. Brooke had practice on Tuesday evening and played a total of eight games on Saturdays. Brenson had basketball practice at the same time as Brooke's volleyball practice, so it was definitely a divide-and-conquer situation. Sometimes, Bri and Brecks would tag along with one of us, and sometimes they would stay home. I think they preferred to stay home!
Ready to play!
Brooke's team was called The Shooting Stars and was coached by Danielle Garey, who also had three daughters on the team. As an added bonus, Sadie was on the team, too!
Brooke had never really played any sort of organized volleyball before. She caught on quickly!
It was amazing to see her growth as the season progressed!
A few times, Grampy took Brooke to the local Rec Center so he could walk and she could practice. One time, a group of girls (about 12 years old) were practicing volleyball and invited Brooke to join them. She was thrilled to practice with them and couldn't wait to tell me about it as soon as she got home.
Brianna really enjoyed volleyball last year and has even participated in a few volleyball camps. She was also looking forward to signing up this season but had been struggling with pain in her ankle and foot for several months. We decided winter volleyball was not the best thing for her, and it turned out to be a good decision since she had to wear a boot for 8 weeks this winter to heal that foot. Although she was sad about it, she and Brecks were always a great little cheering section for their sister!
The last few games of the season were great for Brooke! She "served out" several times (at the Y, the athletes can only serve six consecutive points before they have to pass the ball to the next teammate), and had some really solid volleys and returns.
She was a supportive teammate, and it was always good to see her cheering on the other girls.
The girls ended the season with a 5-3 record. They had several exciting games and wins!
It's so nice to have the opportunity to try new sports with a team that is casual and playing *mostly* for fun. Brooke is already looking forward to next year!
