January Round-Up!

Today is already the last day of January! Sometimes, January can feel like a long month, but that was not the case this year. Here are some of the things that filled our month!

On New Year's Eve, we had Grampy, G-Jo, and the Earls over for snacks and games. Chloe spent the night at our house, so we started January with an extra person under our roof. Everyone slept in a good bit on the first, then Chloe taught Brecklyn a little about the flute she had given her. Brecklyn really wants to play the flute, and we're hopeful she can start with beginning band in the fall.

Our youth devos continue to be a success and a time of great encouragement for us. I love that every month begins with a youth devo. At first, I didn't know if the younger girls would benefit much from them, but they are generally focused and ready to learn during the lessons!

We've had dryer woes off and on since November, so several times this month Chris took the dryer apart to troubleshoot the issues. He's replaced several parts - and the dryer will work fine for a while - but each time it will soon start having issues again. We even had a repairman come out and look at it, but the result was the same. The dryer worked correctly for a few days, but was soon back to not running properly. Sigh.

Brooke has been playing volleyball with a team through the Y, so most Saturdays in January meant volleyball games. Her game has improved so much since she started playing in November!

In addition to volleyball games, we've also had basketball games for Brenson this month. Watching Bren play ball gets more fun with every season as the boys get more coordinated. Bren has really loosened up and started playing more aggressively this season (which is a good thing).

Brianna wanted to play volleyball, but decided it was best to sit this season out since she was having ankle and foot problems (and that was a good decision since she ended up in a boot for 8 weeks!), and Brecklyn had no desire to play a winter sport. They are great supporters for their siblings, though!

At the beginning of the month, we went to a Thunder game as a gamily (you can read about it here). Just a week or so later, Brenson and Brianna were invited to go to a Tulsa Oilers Hockey game with some friends. They had a great time, but Chris and I are still getting used to our kiddos being out with friends. They didn't get home until after 11:00pm, and I was ready to see them walk through the door!

Brenson was sick for a week this month, and I'm pretty sure he had the flu. He woke up on a Thursday morning with a severe headache. He fixed breakfast but went back to bed before eating it, and his temperature was running about 102. He spent pretty much all day Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in bed with a high fever (102-104). I was concerned about him not eating anything, so Saturday evening I asked him to come sit at the dinner table with us while we ate, hoping he would maybe eat a bite or two. He started to feel dizzy sitting at the table and stood up to go back to bed. When he stood up, he looked white as a sheet, so I told Chris to help him. Well, Bren tried to squeeze behind Chris's chair before Chris got up and then started to fall sideways into the kitchen. He tried to catch himself by side-stepping and ended up falling into the stove and hitting his head on the microwave. I bolted across the kitchen as soon as I saw him start to fall and caught him just as he was collapsing but not before he hit his head. I'm not sure how I even held him (he's a big boy!), but Chris rushed over and we laid him down on the kitchen floor. After a few minutes, he was able to get up and walk back to his bed. The girls witnessed the whole scene and were very upset, and it definitely took me a while to settle down!

He finally turned a corner on Monday morning and sat in the living room for a little while. He ended up missing two basketball games on Saturday, church on Sunday, the entire first week of Track & Field practice, a basketball game on Tuesday and a basketball game on Thursday. Thankfully, he's doing much, much better now. Also, no one else got sick like he did. I had a cough and some congestion that started the same day he got sick, but I never ran a fever.

Brianna went through a phase where she loved taking selfies on my phone and Chris's phone. Brooke is now in that phase!

We very rarely go to the movie theater to watch movies - partly because I don't really care about movies and partly because it is so expensive. A new movie - Mufasa - came out this month, and the twins really wanted to see it. They were super sweet and understanding about why we don't go to the theater, so I decided to treat them to the movie one afternoon after we did schoolwork. They LOVED it and felt so special getting to see a movie in the theater!

January was a good month, and we are ready to start February tomorrow!
